Bin Charges: We Are Being Price Gouged

Greyhound Waste is pushing up the price of waste collection again, adding another €2.99 to our monthly bills. The bills will now reach nearly €30 monthly – or over €300 a year.

Three years ago, Greyhound was charging €16.50 a month. They have pushed through massive increases since.

Greyhound has no loyalty to the people of Ireland. As soon as they took over a contract to collect waste in Dublin in 2012, they took their company private.

This means that information on their activities is highly restricted. Greyhound located their holding company in the Isle of Man, to reduce their tax bill.

Greyhound was also fined for breaches of environmental rules.

We need a public not-for-profit bin collection service. People must pay a property tax but we get little for it.

People Before Profit fought against the privatisation of waste and warned against these bill charges. Our TD, Brid Smith, was jailed for fighting against them.

We must stop privatisation and return to a municipal bin collection service.
